Presenters Needed
ARIZONA ACADEMIC SCHOLARS PROGRAM VOLUNTEERS:
As a local business volunteer, you will meet with eighth graders in district middle schools prior to them registering for high school courses. Volunteers will help students understand the importance of a rigorous curriculum through discussions about careers, wages and how employers value education.
VOLUNTEER TRAINING & REHEARSAL:
Volunteers will attend a 2 hour training session on the Arizona Academic Scholars Program. Within two weeks of the training, volunteers will practice by giving one to three presentations at a participating elementary or middle school. These trained business volunteers will then be prepared to enter any participating 8th grade classroom.
SCHOLARS PRESENTATION:
Volunteers will be trained to present a Scholars Presentation, which is 50 minutes in duration, and incorporates two components:
  1. Demonstration of the change in the global economy to focus on education and "skilled labor" in the U.S.
  2. Review of a budget reflecting an entry level salary for a two-year certification or technical degree program.
VOLUNTEER BENEFITS:
  • Helping to prepare the workforce of the future
  • Satisfaction in knowing you are making a difference in the lives of the youth in your community
  • And you'll have fun too!
